Continuing the “Quarantine of 2020” photo tour. Today is closer to home in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania at SteelStacks. As I posted on my Facebook photography and Instagram pages yesterday, we may be stuck in ‘socially distancing‘ mode but that doesn’t mean we can’t look out virtual windows and see some beauty! I am going to try and do an image a day for as long as we are under quarantine social distancing mitigation policy here in Pennsylvania. While the isolation of working from home and not leaving to have any interactions may give me time to work on some older photography, it could very well drive be bat-shit-crazy. This experiment from a Bethlehem photo shoot is to help hold off the jackets with wrap around arms 🙂 .
Today’s image is a new experiment in HDR photography, originally taken in 2018 and edited today while watching yet more doom and gloom on the television about the COVID-19 crisis. While its only been a few days of this self isolation, there is something about it that reminds me of rusting places, wasting away as the environment reclaims the space. Following along on that mental trip, I found a few older images I took in Bethlehem, PA of the old foundry, once one of the largest in the nation. SteelStacks is now a huge facility for education, concerts, art shows and more.
This image was shot on a Sony A7Rii using a 24-70mm f/4 Sony/Zeiss lens, the EXIF details are below for the photography geeks who are into that sort of thing. It is a single image HDR, with the HDR processing in Aurora HDR and all other edits and post done in On1 Photo RAW.
I hope that you and yours are safe and following the guidelines for living under the COVID-19 crisis – while you may not be greatly impacted, you can unknowingly cause others harm. Yeah, staying ‘socially distant’ sucks, but its better than living with the knowledge that being out and about caused someone else to get sick. Remember do not believe something you read just because you saw it online … there is too much bullshit out there. Go to reputable sources like the Centers for Disease Control, World Health Organization, or talk to your doctor!
