Shaving my neck … for the maximum effect

And now for something completely different... I’ve gotten completely frustrated with disposable cartridge razors, the cost, the waste, less than stellar shaving results, and the slime bar they all seem to have, and decided to switch back to a double edge/safety razor.

Its been a couple of decades since I first used one, and spent way too much time searching, reading reviews, deciding open comb or closed comb, butterfly opening or one/two/three piece razor, which blades are best for different face/skin types … ad nauseam – in other words – I spent way too much time researching what should be a fairly simple device – a damn razor!

TLDR; I looked around for a week or so, and went and grabbed a Muehle R89 Grande Closed Comb Safety Razor Muehle R89 Grande Closed Comb Safety Razor, Feather Double Edge Blades (50 Count) for the razor and blades. I also got a new brush (I always used a brush and soap with my old razors…) as the brush I have has gotten old and scraggly. I picked the Muehle Silvertip Badger Hair Shaving Brush (Chrome Handle) – principally based on looks and the Silvertip badger hair.

For soap and skin prep/care I decided on Taylor Of Old Bond Street Shaving Cream Sandalwood (2.5oz) for use with my brush, Taylor of Old Bond Street Sandalwood Pre Shave Oil, and Nivea After Shave Extra Soothing Balm (3.3 oz)

I’ve only used this kit twice so far, but the razor is tight but not overly aggressive … meaning I still have all the blood I started my shave with and a damn close shave. The Taylor of Old Bond Street products are amazing. The cream lathers better than my soaps ever did or could; and both the cream and the oil smell great and do their job.  They’re not overly perfumed, but a subtle scent of sandalwood and spice. The Feather blades cut amazing, and with the oil/lather combo glide over my skin – including scars and jaw line!

The only downside is that now with all the travel I do, I will have to check a bag or downgrade to my old Fusion … bringing safety razors in your carry-on (Briggs & Riley) is a great way to lose it and garner unnecessary attention from our TSA friends.
